I CAN IDENTIFY WITH THIS "DRUG PROBLEM" you mentioned in an earlier email.
My generation just might have been lucky. I had a drug problem when I was young, but I turned out all right.
I was "drug" to church for weddings and funerals.
I was "drug" to family reunions no matter the weather.
I was "drug" to the bus stop to go to school every weekday.
I was "drug" by my ears when I was disrespectful to adults and teachers.
I was also "drug" to the woodshed when I disobeyed my parents.
Those drugs are still in my veins; and they affect my behavior in everything I do, say, and think. They are stronger than cocaine, crack, or heroin, and if today's children had this kind of drug problem, America might be a better place.
A story tells that two friends were walking through the desert. During some point of the journey they had an argument, and one friend slapped the other one in the face.
The one who got slapped was hurt, but without saying anything, wrote in the sand: TODAY MY BEST FRIEND SLAPPED ME IN THE FACE.
They kept on walking until they found an oasis, where they decided to take a bath. The one who had been slapped got stuck in the mire and started drowning, but the friend saved him.
After he recovered from the near drowning, he wrote on a stone: TODAY MY BEST FRIEND SAVED MY LIFE.
The friend who had slapped and saved his best friend asked him, "After I hurt you, you wrote in the sand and now, you write on a stone, why?"
The other friend replied "When someone hurts us we should write it down in sand where winds of forgiveness can erase it away. But, when someone does something good for us, we must engrave it in stone where no wind can ever erase it."

Asking for and receiving help is more challenging than we might think. But when it involves the greater good, it often becomes easier to stretch yourself and do something that might feel uncomfortable without letting your fear or "smallness" get in the way.
Being afraid of what people might think about you is a good example of smallness that will prevent you from honoring your higher vision.
Once you're clear about your vision- how your contribution and work is linked to a greater good - it can become an anchor that will keep you rooted in what matters most. Ultimately, it will let you stretch beyond your smallness.
What do you need to overcome in order to bring your commitment to a whole new level? Some of the following might be standing in your way:
1. Your fear of the reactions of others.
2. Your fear of failure.
3. Your fear of too much responsibility.
4. Your inability to ask for help.
5. Your inability to receive help.
6. Your fear of rejection.
7. Your fear of being judged or criticized.
8. Your fear of disappointment.

If I asked you to think of how secure you feel in your life right now, what would you think of first? If you're like most people, you'd probably equate the amount of investments you currently have and wonder whether or not you'll have enough saved to take care of yourself and your family when you retire.
